Apple Pie's Appalachian Trail Hike

"Near Clingman's Dome" (from Apple Pie's AT Journal)

This weekend, The Hubster and I met two AT (Appalachian Trail) thru-hikers, "Apple Pie" and "Chasing Amy." It was really cold in the Smokies, so they got off the trail for a couple of days to regroup and warm up and wait for the temp to rise a bit.

So they stayed with us. It's so nice to be able to take care of hikers, after so many people have "taken care" of each of us when we were thru-hiking on long trails.

Chasing Amy decided to head back home to Virginia for a few weeks. She said she'll return to the trail to finish her hike. I hope she will. It's hard to motivate yourself to come back out after leaving the trail for such a long time.

Apple Pie, who is from Holland and has previously hiked both the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails, is attempting to hike from Georgia to Maine. She started at Springer Mountain on February 13 and has had a doozy of a time dealing with bad weather. She's back on the trail (as of Saturday) and probably got to Davenport Gap yesterday. She's keeping a journal on Trailjournals (I've also posted it in my "Hiking Links"). The journal includes some great pictures, so be sure to check it out.
