Life Lately

Well, here I am at Panacea Coffee House, in the lovely little town of Waynesville, North Carolina. I've just finished writing a few pages in my hard-copy journal and am now procrastinating on some work I need to do for Relay For Life.

I'll be temporarily re-entering the world of Cubicle Land on Tuesday. My old company in Asheville has hired me on a contract basis to do some tech editing for two weeks. So, when I'm not selling books, I'll be poring over software user manuals. I met with the tech writing team yesterday, then happened to see my old boss as we were walking past his office (he's now the boss of something else, and some other person I don't know oversees the tech writers). It was good to see him again, to meet the new tech writer (who is also a runner!), and to see Sarah, the one remaining tech writer from when I was there.

Before that job begins, though, I need to wrap up some final Relay stuff, finish the final read-through of Jan's book, and at least finish Chapter 15 of my novel. Somehow I am magically going to do that before Tuesday. Hmm.

Back to work.

Happy Adoption Birthday To Me

Welp, 37 years ago today Mrs. Gwen and Mr. Hugh picked me up from Sellers' Baptist Home (or something like that) and took me home to live with them. They hugged me and kissed me and named me Waterfall. (Hey, it was 1970. People gave their kids those kinds of names back then.)

Just kidding. They didn't really name me Waterfall.

Anyway, here's a poem I posted a couple of years ago on my adoption birthday. Enjoy, if you haven't already.

P.S. Note to Mrs. Gwen and Mr. Hugh: You probably don't want to click the link above. Since you're in the process of moving out of the house you've been in since 1972, you'll probably get emotional and decide not to sell the house after all.

P.P.S. Yes, it's OK to sell the house.

This is my 1,551st post. Wow.

I've been in over my head, through complete and total fault of my own, but I've also been turning out some work (writing-wise) that I've been really proud of. I haven't been blogging, but I have definitely been writing up a storm. Most of it has been for Relay For Life, but about 30 pages worth of it has been for my novel.

Haywood County's Relay For Life events will be May 11-12 and May 18-19. Until then, this blog will probably continue to collect dust.

Once they're published, I'll provide links to the articles I've been writing. So check back in another week or so. If you don't check back before then, I'm pretty sure you won't miss anything!

P.S. I'll take a short break from writing this afternoon ... to run 14 glorious miles!

One More Boring Update

Piano: Practicing, but not a lot. Depressed about piano lately.

Running: Long runs are in the 10- to 12-mile range. I live for long runs.

Bookstore: Working lots more hours than I used to.

The Novel: Finished Chapter 12 on Saturday. Started Chapter 13 today.

Happiness: Very happy. I think I will look back on this time of my life (early 2007) and remember it as one of the happiest times of my life.

E-mails: I'll start trying to catch up on Wednesday or Thursday.

Hubster: I am so lucky to have him. He is awesome.

That's my boring life. Doesn't make for an interesting story, but it sure is nice to be happy.

Where I've Been

We've had company for a week. I've been busy, busy, busy with Relay For Life. Life is good, but there hasn't been much time for reflection. Hoping to get a well-deserved "me day" on Saturday. Until then, my posts will continue to be spotty nearly non-existent.

Meanwhile, enjoy these lovely pictures of our family, compliments of La Camera de la Stitches.

Here's Hideaway, looking beautiful and backlit.

Here's Beau. It's so tempting to want to pet the little wild thing, isn't it. DON'T LET HIM FOOL YOU!!

And here are the proud parents: Hubster and me, all dressed up for Easter.

Back to work!

My New Nephews

My brother Nent is the proud father of two bouncing baby boys. He can't decide on names for them yet. I think he's calling one of them Rocky. Maybe he should call the other one "Sleepy."
